new beginning

After finishing my 2nd Half Marathon on Sunday, I feel somewhat relieved to have crossed it off my schedule. To be honest I was worried about training up to running the distance and not eating enough, too much strength training and spinning and not running enough. Let’s just say that I let myself get a little out of control and while I was eating good for most of the time, I found myself also over indulging in too many treats.

I’ve gained 10lbs.

I need to remove them. Not lose, because that term implies that they should/will be found again.

I will remove them.

I am going to be accountable for what I put into my body. I gave up dairy for lent, and while I will say that no having no cheese has been difficult, its not impossible and my skin is looking WAY better than before. So even after Lent is over I think I might stick to a dairy free diet.

Except that up until today, I decided that chocolate didn’t count as dairy. Oh but it is you say… I know. And that is why I have gained weight.

Enough about that.. this morning started off with a small banana and a spin class at the gym with my brand new cycling shoes! I was SO excited to use them, and let me say, that spinning shoes make all the difference in spin class. If you spin regularly, I recommend you invest in spinning shoes, you will love them.

Before I left for the gym, I made a Green Monster.

breakfast of champions!

In the mix was:

8 oz unsweetened Almond Milk

1/2 frozen banana

Power trio: 1 scoop Designer Whey Vanilla protein powder, 1 scoop Green Superfood powder, 2 tbsp Pomegranate powder

power trio

After Spin,  I was going to do some arm/ upper body weights, but I wasn’t feeling it. Instead I just stretched my legs for 15 minutes which felt amazing. They were SO. TIGHT. AND. SORE. after Sunday’s Half Marathon!

I’m at the office now, sipping a coffee with Almond milk.  I have a volunteer meeting after work!

See you later!

manic morning

was not feeling to hot this morning, actually that is a lie i was sweating when i woke up becuase it was 1,000 degrees in my apt. for some reason i thought it would be good to sleep without the AC last night.

I dragged myself out of bed for a run, but the soupy NYC air was way to thick to do it outside. I pushed myself for a quick 20 minute treadmill session at the gym, picked-up my laundry, made lunch for today and tomorrow (staying at the man’s place tonight, so i need to be prepared for work eats tomorrow too), and a green monster for breakfast.

My green monster contained:

1/2 frozen banana

2 huge handfuls of spinach

3 oz plain fat free chobani

1 scoop designer whey french vanilla protein powder

6 oz skim plus milk

(i am notorious for using and reusing plastic cold drink cups, this one here was used 3 times already, obvi washed after each use, but it was tossed after the GM).

because of my too brief cardio this am, i am going to hit up a lunch time spin class with one of the best instructors ever. i drank my green monster on the way to work and was craving an iced coffee when i got in, so that is what i am drinking now.

lots to do today before the Met game with the man tonight! He’s picking me up at work – i’m a lucky girl.

have a great day!

new snack

for a mid morning snack i tried something new today!

3 wasa light 12 grain crackers (i ate the other one before i took the picture!)

1/4 cup fat free ricotta cheese, spread over three crackers

one small sliced vine tomato

3 slices turkey breast

it was crispy, full of protein and yummy!

green monster

this morning i had a green monster for breakfast. Angela started the green monster movement. she is a genius! who knew that drinking your greens could be so tasty and good for you. my green monster wasn’t that creative today, but it had:

1 1/2 cups baby spinach

3 oz fat free plain Chobani

5 oz skim plus milk

1 scopp vanilla designer whey

1/2 frozen banana

It was delicious! i sipped it on the train on the way to work. nothing like some greens to start the day!

i have wanted to start blogging for a while. i feel like i have so much to share and need an outlet for  my thoughts. there are so many creative blogs out there about healthy living, eating, exercising, love, weddings, babies, pop culture, travel, music… i just want mine to be its own self.

i am a notorious procrastinator and its not  something i am proud of. I love being done with a project whatever it is, so not sure why this doesn’t help me get motivated to get moving on what needs to be crossed off the to do list.  Case in point — i am registered to run the Healthy Kidney 10k this Saturday in Central Park, but i have  been lax about training.  i hope i can make it! i am a little worried about my sneakers since a trainer at the gym noted that i need more supportive kicks. i know i am not supposed to get new shoes right before a race, so i am holding out. although i did go to jack rabbit today in nyc to get fitted and they  told me it was too late to do it tonight, to come back another time. bummer! but they did give me a coupon for 15% off my next purchase. not too bad!

tomorrow i am  off to do a 5 miler in the AM, then work, a club cuts class at nyhrc and then seeing Babies with some of my lady friends! i’ll let  you know about the film tomorrow.
